Labour Court rejects worker’s appeal over Meath County Council promotion decisions

The Labour Court disallowed an anonymised worker’s appeal over unsuccessful applications for promotion at Meath County Council, affirming a recommendation that the council discuss his interview performance with him. The decision was signed on 11 March 2011. The union, the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, argued that interview marks were weighted unfairly and sought compensation or a second position. The council said vacancies were filled through a fair, transparent process and there was no automatic entitlement to promotion. The Court found no evidence of irregularity in the selection process or an irrational result.
