The Labour Court upheld a recommendation that the Irish Blood Transfusion Service pay an unnamed worker an evening-duty allowance from his appointment as a Chief Medical Scientist in 2007, including back money due. The decision was dated 27 October 2010. The worker, represented by MLSA, said the Laboratory Manager had promised him the allowance, which was withheld from his wages the following month. The Service argued that other Cork scientists had received it in error and that the payment had been discontinued. The Court accepted that the manager had promised the allowance and noted that three other Chief Medical Scientists in Cork were receiving it at the time. It said the decision should not be relied on as a precedent.
