The Labour Court upheld a recommendation for an independent review of four hospital managers’ Grade VIII posts at Health Service Executive South. The decision was signed on 19 March 2010. The recommendation called for the review to be completed within 10 weeks, with its findings communicated within a further two weeks. The managers’ dual responsibility allowance was to remain in place until their posts were evaluated. The Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union argued that their duties were equivalent to General Manager roles. The HSE cited uncertainty about its management structure, approval requirements and a cap on posts. The employer’s appeal failed.
