The Labour Court varied a recommendation in an appeal by the Citizens Information Board and a worker, requiring the worker to attend Monday meetings and perform switchboard duties when requested on the same terms as other staff. It affirmed the Grade IV upgrade recommendation in all other respects.
The dispute concerned the worker’s grievances about meetings and minute-taking, switchboard cover and regrading. The Board said head-office staff were expected to attend weekly meetings and take turns recording minutes, and that switchboard cover applied at the regraded level. The worker said he had been required to attend when colleagues were not and could not accept the conditions attached to the Grade IV offer. The Court found no sustainable case for exempting him from the meetings or switchboard duties. The decision was signed on 1 February 2010.
