The Labour Court recommended that the Islamic Culture Centre pay a worker €30,000 in addition to statutory redundancy, varying the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation. The decision was dated 23 April 2009. The worker had taught at the Muslim National School since 1997. The Centre said the Maktoum Foundation had stopped funding his role and offered statutory redundancy, along with the option of continuing in the same job under the school’s direct employment. The worker rejected the options, saying he should retain his status and work for the Foundation. The Court agreed the Centre was entitled to make him redundant and had done all it could to accommodate him. With alternative employment no longer available, it recommended the enhanced payment in full and final settlement.
