Labour Court upholds €2,500 recommendation on worker's appeal

The Labour Court upheld a €2,500 recommendation to a worker who was let go from his night porter job at Cassidy's Hotel, dismissing his appeal for more compensation. The decision was signed on 8 September 2008.

The worker had been hired to replace a night porter who then decided to stay, leaving the hotel with no further work for him. He argued that the payment did not adequately cover his loss of earnings and that he had been unfairly dismissed without notice. The hotel said he had accepted the €2,500 payment and had waived his right to appeal; it also said the position had disappeared when the existing porter stayed.
