In 2008, the Labour Court recommended that a worker made redundant by Anchor Training Ltd. be credited with five years’ service for redundancy purposes. Its decision was signed on 27 August 2008. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, said her service began in July 2001. Anchor Training Ltd. said it began in February 2003. The Court found there was no technical transfer between the employments, but a discernible connection between the bodies for which she worked. The Court upheld the Rights Commissioner’s multiplier for the ex-gratia lump sum as fair and reasonable. It noted Anchor Training Ltd. could not pay the amount from its own resources and recommended that the parties seek funding together.
