The Labour Court rejected a worker’s appeal in a bullying and harassment dispute with Port Of New Ross Company Limited in a decision dated 28 July 2008. The worker alleged that the company’s chief executive and chairperson had subjected him to insults, slurs and threats over four years. The Court found that the parties had agreed at a meeting on 1 December 2005 that the matter was resolved. It also agreed there was no evidence to substantiate bullying. The worker had argued that the chief executive’s investigation of a complaint against himself was not impartial. The Court said a further meeting recommended by the Rights Commissioner was no longer viable because the worker had left after taking voluntary redundancy.
