The Labour Court upheld a €7,500 recommendation to a Teagasc worker and dismissed the Council’s appeal on 23 July 2008. The recommendation said the worker should choose one of four options for moving to a new grade and receive the payment if he accepted one. The dispute followed a 2004 restructuring that replaced compulsory weekend overtime with time off in lieu. The union said overtime made up about 20% of the worker’s income and that the change affected his increments and pension entitlements. Teagasc argued the union had accepted the restructuring agreement and that allowing the claim could prompt about 97 similar claims.
