The Labour Court upheld the rejection of a worker’s request to reopen Teagasc’s voluntary early redundancy scheme, and urged the parties to discuss a possible exit package. The Court’s decision was dated 30 July 2008. The worker had been principal of the Irish Countrywomen’s Association’s College of Horticulture, which closed in 2003. He began a lecturer post at the Botanic Gardens on 1 October 2004. He said he expected a post of similar standing or the option of voluntary redundancy, and had sought more time to decide. Teagasc argued he knew the scheme’s deadline and that reopening it could affect other staff.
