The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Mid West Security pay a security officer an ex gratia €2,000 after both sides appealed a dismissal dispute. The Court’s decision was dated 28 February 2007. The union said the company had not substantiated its reasons for dismissing the worker and that the internal appeal lacked fair procedure. Mid West Security said the worker had a fair opportunity to do the job and that it had valid grounds for ending the employment. The Labour Court found the recommendation appropriate and correct, upheld it and dismissed both appeals. The worker was described as a security officer and represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union.
