In 2007, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Donegal County Council pay a worker €1,500 compensation after his appeal over his permanent work base failed. The Court signed its decision on 10 August 2007. The worker, represented by SIPTU, had been based in Clonmany since joining the Council in 1998. His permanent contract specified Carndonagh as his base. The union said moving there would add to his travel costs; the Council said its permanent central team operated from Carndonagh and collecting him from Clonmany was not sustainable. The Court agreed the permanent role required him to be based in Carndonagh. It upheld the recommendation of €1,500 compensation for the inconvenience and cost associated with the change.
