Labour Court upholds €4,000 recommendation in Sturdy Products redundancy appeal

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court upheld a €4,000 compensation recommendation to a worker after dismissing Sturdy Products Limited’s appeal over his redundancy. The decision was dated 7 June 2007. Sturdy Products said trading difficulties led to redundancies and that the worker had previously sought one. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union disputed this, saying he was selected without clear criteria or proper notice. The Court found confusion and mutual misunderstanding, but said the company’s procedures were deficient and incompatible with good industrial relations practice.
