The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation rejecting an unnamed worker’s complaint about the HSE’s promotion process. It dated its decision 20 June 2006 and advised the HSE to make its selection and interview procedures clear, fair and transparent. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, was placed second for one available Senior II post at Portlaoise General Hospital. His side said the interviews were short, notes were unavailable and he had little time to apply for the second interview. Management said the process followed its recruitment practice. The Court found the interview scoring sheets lacked sufficient consistency to help the worker compare the results, but upheld the conclusion that the overall process was fair.
