The Labour Court dismissed a worker’s appeal over a claim for a 2.5% pay increase, finding Galco Steel Ltd had met its obligations and no payments were outstanding. The decision was dated 2 June 2006. The union argued the first phase of the PESP agreement should have applied from 1 January 1996 and said the worker’s pay was below the accepted craft rate. The company said his employment letter deferred further increases until his probation was determined and that he had received all increases due under national wage agreements. The Court said the company’s January 1996 correspondence was clear and had not been challenged. It upheld the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation against the worker.
