Labour Court recommends €14.25 hourly rate for Glass Centre worker from January 2005

The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation and recommended a rate of €14.25 an hour for a general operative at The Glass Centre Limited from 1 January 2005. The Court signed its decision on 30 September 2005. The union said the company had told the worker he would receive the Grade 3 Construction Operative rate and sought backdating to July 2004. The company said construction rates did not apply to his factory job and that it had applied national pay increases. The Court did not recommend backdating before 1 January 2005, taking account of the company’s stated competitive pressures, and recommended that the parties discuss the future position.
