The Labour Court affirmed a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that Trinity College pay a worker €1,000, after disallowing the College’s appeal. The decision was signed on 26 May 2005. The worker was excluded from a second interview for a Buildings Co-ordinator post. The union said one interview-panel member had drawn up the shortlist, contrary to College procedures. Trinity College acknowledged a technical breach of its protocol, but argued that the worker did not meet the advertised criteria and that the selected candidate was the most suitable. The College appealed only the monetary part of the recommendation. The Court considered the Rights Commissioner’s conclusions correct and the recommendation reasonable.
