In 2004, the Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner's recommendation that six workers at Darndale Belcamp Initiative Limited receive two weeks' pay per year of service plus statutory redundancy terms. The decision was dated 11 October 2004. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued the workers' jobs had become permanent and that their dismissal created a redundancy situation, seeking three weeks' pay per year of service plus statutory entitlements. The company said the scheme had run its course, the positions were later filled and there had been no funding cutbacks. The Court found the workers were entitled to redundancy terms when their employment ended. It dismissed both the union's and the company's appeals and upheld the recommendation of two weeks' pay per year of service plus statutory terms.
