The Labour Court recommended that an offer to settle a worker’s public health nursing course sponsorship claim be increased by €5,000. Its decision was dated 21 February 2003. The South Eastern Health Board had appealed a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that the claim be conceded in full. The Board said the worker had not applied for the sponsorship programme and had not been assured that sponsorship was secured. The Irish Nurses Organisation said she had been encouraged to complete the course and assured that sponsorship was in place. The Department of Health had offered €5,080, a refund of course fees and 80% of the minimum Public Health Nurse rate for the clinical placement period. The Court recommended increasing that offer by an additional €5,000 in full and final settlement.
