In 2003, the Labour Court increased a recommended payment in an employment dispute involving Pegasus Security Group from €300 to €1,000. Its decision was dated 18 July 2003, on the worker’s appeal of a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation. The worker was represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The union said the worker had been told to take two weeks’ leave and found his position filled when he returned. The company said he left his post during a shift and later arrived late for work after an agreement to reinstate him. The union and worker had not attended the Rights Commissioner’s hearing because of confusion about its date. The Labour Court said it supported the Rights Commissioner’s findings and recommended increasing the payment to €1,000 in full and final settlement. The original recommendation was amended accordingly.
