In 2003, the Labour Court disallowed a union appeal seeking a higher grade for a worker at Iarnrod Eireann’s Wexford station. The Court affirmed the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation against upgrading on 18 June 2003. The union said the worker’s duties and responsibilities warranted promotion from Senior Depot Person to Traffic Coordinator. Iarnrod Eireann argued that his work was similar to duties at other stations and that falling cement traffic did not support a regrading. The Court found the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation appropriate and disallowed the appeal.
