Labour Court affirms annual leave recommendation for The Galway County Association worker

In 2003, the Labour Court disallowed a worker's appeal over a clause requiring annual leave to coincide mainly with day-centre closures, affirming a recommendation that 20 days be taken during closures at Christmas, Easter and in summer. The decision was dated 7 May 2003. The worker argued that she alone among 16 support-services staff had the restriction and that she served clients throughout the year. The Galway County Association said leave depended on client and service needs, that many employees had fixed closure periods, and that the worker had access to 42 days of leave in 2002. The Court found the recommendation struck a reasonable balance between the parties.
