In 2003, the Labour Court varied a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation on an appeal by Valwin Limited, Trading As Glanmire Precision, concerning pension contributions for a maintenance fitter. The Rights Commissioner had recommended contributions from May 2001 on an ongoing basis; the Labour Court limited the recommendation to contributions through May 2003. The Court said the company was not covered by the Construction Industry REA and should not have to make ongoing contributions. It recommended contributions for the worker only through May 2003, after which the worker was responsible for arranging pension requirements. The Labour Court’s decision was dated 8 May 2003.
