The Labour Court recommended that Teagasc provide an exit package to a worker facing dismissal, or accept the Rights Commissioner's earlier recommendation that her proposed dismissal not proceed and efforts be made to find suitable work. The decision was signed on 14 April 2003. Teagasc appealed the earlier recommendation, saying the worker had missed performance targets despite counselling, training and additional support. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said she had 23 years of service, had been made permanent after eight years and wanted to continue working. The Court said the timing of the proposed dismissal was unfortunate given her 23 years of employment and that she would qualify for a pension the following year. If the parties could not agree on a severance package, the Court said it would make a recommendation on request.
