In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that the Western Health Board immediately implement its staff rotation scheme and consult with a worker about her concerns. The decision was dated 25 March 2003.
The Board selected the worker, who had worked at Sacred Heart Home in Castlebar for more than 25 years, for rotation between that home and St Mary’s Hospital. She objected to being selected and said she had not volunteered. The Board said rotation would support staff development and promotion prospects, while giving its services greater flexibility and efficiency.
The Court noted the Board’s agreement that the worker could remain employed at Sacred Heart Home and that the offered position matched her grade. It recommended that she participate in the scheme and that the Board consult with her and make every effort to accommodate her concerns.
