The Labour Court rejected an unnamed Dublin Bus worker’s appeal and upheld the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation on claims for payment or replacement rest days during jury service. The Court signed its decision on 5 September 2002. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, had served jury duty over three weeks. The union sought compensation for lost rest days or alternative days off, as well as a day off before jury service after eight consecutive days of duties. The Court said the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation was correct and rejected the appeal.
