The Labour Court upheld a recommendation that Independent Newspapers (Ireland) Limited negotiate with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union before changing arrangements for six specialist canvassers. The decision was dated 12 August 2002. The company sought to rotate the Tele-Sales Canvassers within their profiles. The union said changes to specialist roles set out in the 1996 agreement required mutual agreement. The Court said the agreement could not be interpreted as the company argued and noted that the company had accepted the existing arrangements for five years. It said the proposed change was not unreasonable and recommended early negotiations.
