Labour Court upholds recommendation after worker misses appeal hearing

By Ruairí Dolan

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court upheld the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation after a worker failed to attend her appeal hearing. The decision was signed on 29 April 2002; the merits were not decided. The worker had alleged that River Island Clothing Company Limited forced her to resign after adding Saturday work to her roster without agreement, and that store management harassed her. The Rights Commissioner found there was not enough evidence to sustain the harassment complaint and did not consider her resignation forced. The worker did not attend the Labour Court hearing to present her appeal.
