In 2001, the Labour Court recommended that Aer Lingus Shannon pay a worker £500 as a goodwill payment in a dispute over a training bonus. The Court’s decision, dated 5 February 2001, amended a Rights Commissioner recommendation. The worker sought an annual £500 bonus. Aer Lingus Shannon argued he was not eligible because he joined the Line Maintenance grade in 1993, after an agreement excluded new entrants. The Court accepted that he was excluded from the bonus, but recommended the £500 payment in recognition of two seasons working in line maintenance in 1985 and 1986 and his long service. It was to settle the claim in full and final.
