In 2001, the Labour Court disallowed the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal over overtime claims by four Bray Urban District Council refuse workers. The decision was signed on 24 October 2001. The workers sought two hours’ overtime at time and a half for work on 24 March 2000, including time after their scheduled finish. The council said the overtime had not been authorised and that working through lunch was normal under its task-and-finish arrangement. The Court agreed with the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation against conceding the claim and affirmed it.
