The Labour Court increased compensation for a worker unfairly dismissed by Irish Pride to £1,500 (€1,904.61), including the £400 the worker held. The decision was signed on 8 August 2001.
The worker appealed a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation of £1,000 (€1,269.74). The Labour Court agreed the dismissal was unfair on procedural grounds and found the worker had not received notice or pay in lieu, or holiday pay due. The increased sum was in full and final settlement of outstanding claims, including notice and holidays.
The worker said there was no evidence linking him to a hit-and-run. The Court found he was not involved in any hit-and-run involving the company’s van or otherwise, and recommended that Irish Pride provide a written statement confirming he was not suspected.
