The Labour Court upheld a worker's appeal against a Rights Commissioner's recommendation and recommended that the West Of Ireland Alzheimer Foundation pay her £600 compensation. It also recommended including her in the next programme. The decision was dated 21 May 2001. The worker, represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, was one of 10 carers hired on 52-week contracts. Five were retained when the contracts ended, but she was not among them. The Foundation said it did not have enough work to renew all 10 contracts. The Court found that the Foundation's reappointment procedures fell far below professional standards and had raised an expectation that the worker's contract would be renewed.
