Labour Court disallows Glanbia appeal over merger redundancy package

The Labour Court disallowed Glanbia's appeal and affirmed a modified recommendation that a worker could access the merger redundancy package if no suitable redeployment role was found or accepted. The decision was dated 17 May 2001. The worker, represented by the Dairy Executives Association, had moved from a payroll manager role at Avonmore to a position at the merged group. The Court found that a 3 December 1998 letter committed Glanbia to making the package available if the new position did not suit the worker or the company. The Court recommended first seeking a suitable role, with the package option available for six months after she took up any new position. If no suitable role was identified, or she did not accept redeployment, the package was to be made available under the commitment.
