Labour Court upholds Primark pay recommendation for worker

By Orla Quinn

Labour Court ·

The Labour Court upheld a Rights Commissioner’s recommendation that a worker at Primark Limited accept her existing pay rate, rejecting Mandate’s appeal. The decision was signed on 24 October 2000. The worker in Goods Inwards at the company’s O’Connell Street store sought the £7.85 rate paid to similar staff at its Mary Street store. Mandate said her duties were as complex and demanding as those performed at Mary Street. Primark said the stores had different staffing structures and duties, and that granting the claim could have wider cost implications.
