Wicklow County Council has reached an agreement with developers to begin construction works on the Northern Ring Road in Blessington.

The purpose-built route will connect existing sections of the road between the Naas Road and the Blessington Industrial Estate junction, and between the N81 south of the town and the Kilmalum Road.

Two primary sections of the inner relief road have yet to be completed, and two preferred routes have now been selected, one to the south of Blessington and the other at the north end of the town.

The southern section lies between the roundabout on the R410 Naas Road and the roundabout on the L8364 Kilmalum Road.

The other proposed route heads northwards from the existing roundabout on the Blessington Inner Relief Road to the west of Woodleigh Estate and passes the quarry to emerge onto the N81 in the vicinity of the existing quarry entrance.

Wicklow TD Edward Timmins has welcomed the latest development on the project.

“I have had discussions with officials of Wicklow County Council and am happy to say that significant progress has been made on the construction of this section of road.”

“Agreement has now been reached between the developer and the council to move ahead with construction. I have lobbied for this project for several years”.
