A total of €103,000 will be used to invest in community sports and physical activity initiatives in County Wicklow.

The Dormant Accounts Funding allows unclaimed funds to be used for projects focused on overcoming barriers and challenges to participation in sport for those who are economically or educationally disadvantaged, or those affected by a disability.

A pot of €4 million is available nationwide and in County Wicklow, €33,000 will be invested in sports hubs, €40,000 for Sports Inclusion Disability Projects, and €30,000 for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Wicklow TD Edward Timmins said this funding will help ensure that new opportunities and new sports are opened to people of all abilities and backgrounds across the county.

Wicklow-Wexford TD Brian Brennan added: “I am particularly happy to see funding for Sports Inclusion Disability Projects and Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

“This will serve to ensure that our sports offerings in Wicklow will continue to become more accessible to all in our society and widen the net of inclusion across the county.” he added.
