Wicklow residents kept waiting for crucial N11 noise reduction measures
The Wicklow PeopleTransport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) have appointed contractors to allow noise reduction measures to be implemented at the N11 parallel road in Kilmacanogue.
The issue was raised during the July meeting of Wicklow County Council, however, it has since come to light these works have yet to get under way.
Cllr Joe Behan noted that these residents have been waiting for these changes for over five years.
“They were promised in the planning report and in the Part 8 consultation that these noise mitigation measures would take place. It is very, very disappointing that we haven't got to the point where this work can be done.”
“I would ask that TII, or the contractor are contacted and asked to get on with this work.”
Since the introduction of the parallel road, there is a new speed limit, a faster speed limit which has lead to an increase in noise and traffic on the inner road.
The southbound road has a speed limit of 60km/h, with a special speed limit of 50km/h in place on the parallel road.
The new parallel road has been a success in diverting traffic onto the slip-road, but for a small number of houses by the slip-road life has been described as “intolerable” because of the noise.
During the council’s July monthly meeting, chief executive Emer O’Gorman shared Cllr Behan’s frustration on the issue.
“We have impressed on TII the commitment that was given five years ago.” she added.
