Tánaiste opens 89-home development in Wicklow, including 22 affordable homes
The Wicklow PeopleIt was a benchmark day recently for west Wicklow as Tánaiste Simon Harris officially opened the Aldborough Manor housing estate in Baltinglass.
The ambitious development is spearheaded by Fitzpatrick and Heavey Homes and features 89 homes and a crèche, including 22 affordable housing units.
The development will be located on an elevated site with stunning views of the surrounding countryside and overlooking the River Slaney. Aldborough Manor will comprise of one, two, three and four-bed homes, with plenty of demand expected.
The first 22 houses of the development will all be three-bed semi-detached houses ranging in size from 1,250 sq ft to 1,300 sq ft, with affordable home prices starting at just €260,000.
These units fall under the Affordable Housing Scheme, thereby increasing their appeal to first-time buyers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Harris said this was an important milestone.
“Private homes, affordable homes and social homes - creating a truly inclusive community. This is what housing delivery looks like when everyone pulls together locally and nationally. We need much more of this right across the country.”
Ciaran Fitzpatrick, CEO of Fitzpatrick and Heavey Homes who delivered the project believes the development serves as an affirmation of their commitment to address the housing needs in Wicklow and rural Ireland.
“This development will not only provide homes but also support a thriving community, nestled within the beautifully landscaped surroundings of Baltinglass."
The ceremony was also graced by representatives from Wicklow County Council, including chief executive Emer O’Gorman, who has been supportive of the project since its inception.
Ms O’Gorman said she was proud to have cooperated in a development that “aligns so closely with our own goals for community growth and environmental sustainability”.
“Aldborough Manor will be a great addition to the Baltinglass community, and we're excited to see the positive impact it will make," she added.
Meanwhile Cathaoirleach Melanie Corrigan said it will provide a boost for those looking to secure a home
“This scheme comprises of 89 homes with a balanced mix of 22 social units, 12 affordable units and 56 private homes reflecting the developer’s strong commitment to creating sustainable, inclusive communities. The development also includes a creche and extensive landscaping to support families and enhance community life.”
