Wicklow County Council has incurred costs totalling just under €3,000 for a public campaign informing residents and visitors about the closure of the Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk.

The figure of €2,975.89 forms part of a Freedom of Information request obtained by the Social Democrats, which details the amount paid for the creation, production, installation and dissemination of public information signage, notices and online information notices regarding the closure of the amenity.

The highest cost of €1,285.35 was paid for the installation of a galvanised rail alongside auxiliary equipment.

The popular coastal route, which attracted approximately 350,000 walkers each year, has remained closed since 2021 due to repeated landslides and subsidence.

A recent update provided to the July meeting of Greystones Municipal District confirmed that the site has now been drone surveyed and assessed by experts, and planning for remedial works is advancing.

Slow progress is being made towards the restoration of the walk, following recent assessments by geologists and engineers, but local representatives have repeatedly reiterated the urgent need for full repair works to begin as soon as is possible.

A study carried out by economist Jim Power which estimates a loss of over €14 million to the Wicklow economy since the closure of the walk, a figure that was current as of June of this year.
