Women ‘don’t feel safe’ walking the South East Greenway during dark winter months

Women in Wexford are afraid to walk the South East Greenway during the winter months due to a lack of lighting on the section between Rosbercon and the Gala shop in Raheen.

Having been contacted by a number of women in her local area, Councillor Bridín Murphy raised the issue at the November meeting of the New Ross Municipal District (NRMD).

“The lighting on the greenway has been brought up with me on numerous occasions, particularly by women,” she said. “Many feel it’s not lit up enough and that, of the lights there, there’s not enough of them working,” she said.

“Where you cross over, at Rosbercon down to Gala, there’s quite a lot of lights not working. Women don’t feel safe there and would like to see it better lit up in the evening.”

In response, district engineer David Murphy said he would contact the council’s special projects team and return with an update for Cllr Murphy.
