Wexford stakes claim for new 12-bed mental health facility
Wexford PeopleWith the HSE in the process of compiling its new capital development plan for mental health services across the country, a Wexford councillor has urged the local council to ensure it doesn’t miss out on new facilities. As part of its plan, the health executive will construct new facilities, upgrade existing ones, and provide the necessary equipment to support the transformation of mental health services nationwide.
And at the November meeting of Wexford County Council (WCC) Councillor Ger Carthy stressed the importance of being included in any potential investment opportunities.
“We need to be encouraging the HSE to consider the development and delivery of a 12-bed acute mental health service facility in Co Wexford,” he said. “The current capital development plan for mental health services is in the making and, if we’re not included, nothing will be constructed here until after 2030.
"Can we consider writing to the HSE as a council because this is very, very important?"
Agreeing with his colleague, catthaoirleach Cllr Joe Sullivan said a motion would be brought to the next meeting requesting that the HSE include Co Wexford in any future developments.
