The development of a new solar farm in rural Co Wexford has seen many roads closed while underground cables are installed. And while ESB has been praised for repairing roads dug up to facilitate the solar farm, the works have had a knock-on effect in some communities.

Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Rosslare Municipal District (RMD), Councillor Lisa McDonald said the people of Piercestown and Murrintown should be praised for their “forbearance” while roadworks were taking place and said there had been very few complaints regarding ESB’s works in the area.

However, another utility company had been causing issues.

“I do want to call out one of the waste management companies for its appalling treatment of people,” she said. “It expected them to bring bins to a meet point, it’s very unfair, it’s being paid to deliver a service and it should liaise directly with the ESB to find a solution.

“It leaves a sour taste, everyone is discommoded as a result.”
