Tenants in a newly-developed New Ross housing estate are dealing with blocked toilets and showers due to “poor workmanship” from the builders. Ard na Bhile was purchased by Wexford County Council (WCC) from a developer and, according to Councillor Michael Sheehan, has been beset with problems almost from the moment people started moving in.

“The amount of complaints I’ve received about the poor workmanship and the quality of the houses is astounding,” he said at the September meeting of WCC. “I fail to see how the clerk of works could have passed some of what was going on there. Private plumbers are going in and saying there’s a fundamental issue regarding the pipes in the estate and toilets and showers are being blocked left, right, and centre.

"If the clerk passed some of that stuff the director needs to have a word with them.”

Accepting that there had been some problems during the first phase of the development, director of housing with WCC Carolyne Godkin said she would raise the issues mentioned by Cllr Sheehan and return with a response.
