Survey to be carried out at Wexford Bridge as council seeks ways to improve traffic flow at peak times
Wexford PeopleWith commuters continuing to experience lengthy tailbacks on Wexford Bridge every morning and evening, the county council is to carry out a traffic survey to identify ways to improve the flow at peak times. Having repeatedly asked the council to investigate potential solutions to the traffic issues on the bridge, Cllr Robbie Staples received an update from the roads department.
“A traffic survey is being carried out to identify the flow of traffic,” it read. “Also the lights on the bridge are being renewed. The lights are already sequenced so they allow traffic off the bridge in the morning for a longer time period and off the quay in the evening for a longer time period.
"There will be no change to the lights until the survey is carried out. I have no timeframe for this as of yet.”
Currently traffic is backed up as far as Boland’s Garage and beyond in the mornings and some Castlebridge residents have reported that it’s taking them almost an hour to complete a journey which should take just a fraction of that time. Such is the extent of the issue, many motorists have welcomed the occasional outages at the lights on the bridge, arguing that without a stop-go system traffic flows “a hundred times better” at the junction.
