Rural Wexford road in ‘dire straits’ following work carried out by utility company
Wexford PeopleA Co Wexford road which took the brunt of traffic while largescale works were being carried out on a main route is now in “dire straits” according to one local councillor. Lambstown Lane in the New Ross Municipal District (NRMD) facilitated motorists while engineering company GMC Utilities installed underground cables on the road between Baginbun Beach and Kelly’s Cross, however, this increase in use has left the quiet country road in a poor state.
“It’s in dire straits, people can’t get down that road it’s so bad,” said Councillor Pat Barden at the October meeting of the NRMD. “It was being used as an alternative route while GMC was digging up another route to do its work so it would be only fair if strengthening works were carried out there.”
Cllr Barden received support from his Wexford Independent Alliance (WIA) colleague Cllr Marty Murphy.
“It’s in a terrible condition and had a lot of traffic while those works were taking place,” he said.
In response roads engineer David Murphy said this year’s budget for repairs was now “well and truly gone” but that he would consider Lambstown Lane on his programme of works for 2026.
