Roadworks which were postponed in Easter due to business owners’ concerns will now be completed sometime in 2026 according to the district engineer for the Wexford Borough. The works, which were set to take place in St Aidan’s Crescent and see a new car park installed, can’t be completed this year as they can only be done when the nearby schools are off for a protracted length of time.

Running from St Aidan’s to Browne’s roundabout in Wexford town the works will see improved pathways and road surfaces for residents and motorists and will be funded by the discretionary allocated to the Borough District’s seven county councillors.

However, these works will not come at the expense of planned upgrades in Kennedy Park.

Explaining the cause of the delays and the likely completion dates, engineer Eilis Furlong said both projects were scheduled for next year.

“The roads programme has St Aidan’s Crescent on it, it was moved from Easter because of representations from businesses up there, and there’s not enough days between now and Christmas to do it so it will be moved to next year’s programme. We can discuss which of the two projects comes first, a lot of roads in the district require significant funding.”
