The completion of 60 new social houses in Wexford town will help address the “diverse housing needs” of individuals and families in the county according to Housing Minister James Browne TD.

Confirming that the houses, at Killeens, will be completed in December of next year, Minister Browne said this project was just one of many in Wexford focusing on the requirements of social housing applicants.

“This development is a strong example of how local authorities, supported by Government, are delivering high-quality homes that meet the needs of communities,” said the minister. “This project will make a real and lasting difference in the lives of families and individuals in Wexford town.

“I am committed to accelerating housing delivery across all tenures both in Wexford and nationwide. I am using every tool available to address housing need, from strategic land acquisition and planning reform to targeted investment programmes like the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP).

“Currently, we have a strong pipeline of over 700 social homes either on-site or at design stage across Wexford, but I am determined to scale this up further. Every home we deliver is more than bricks and mortar — it’s a place where someone can feel safe, build a future, and belong.”

The development will comprise one, two, and three-bedroom homes, ground floor apartments with duplex units overhead, and own-door access for all residents.

The development is being supported by the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP), which is the main capital funding programme used by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage support local authorities in delivering new social housing.
