Number of houses planned for ambitious Gorey scheme remains shrouded in mystery
Wexford PeopleThe mystery surrounding the number of houses to be developed in the St Waleran’s project in Gorey has gone unsolved for another despite the best efforts of Fine Gael councillor Darragh McDonald. While some estimates suggest the ambitious housing scheme will bring upwards of 400 new homes to the north Wexford town, funding approval has only been acquired for 40 units thus far.
At the July meeting of the Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District (GKMD), Cllr McDonald asked why there appeared to be so much secrecy regarding the project.
“In our last meeting I raised a question about St. Waleran’s and I expressed my frustration at the response I received,” he said. “As councillors we should have a little bit of an idea of how many houses are going to be there. I refuse to believe there’s no one within the council who has an idea of what's going to happen there. If no one has an idea then we’re in worse trouble than I thought.”
Director of services Ms Liz Hore said she would provide a more detailed update on the project at the district’s next meeting in September.
