With the proposed new skate park for the town now ‘shovel ready’ the New Ross Municipal District (NRMD) is awaiting suitable funding opportunities to finance the project. Due to be located in Rosbercon, beside the South East Greenway, the skate park has completed the design process and received full planning permission.

One potential option is the Community Sport Facilities Fund (CSFF) from which local authorities can claim up to €300,000 for qualifying projects. Should Wexford County Council (WCC) receive funding under this scheme the skate park could include a padel court and a multi-use games area (MUGA).

Assessing potential grants available for the works, Councillor Michael Sheehan said he had spoken to Sports Minister Charlie McConalogue and been assured that funding would be available via the CSFF this year.

“The applications can be submitted in early 2026 with the allocations likely to be awarded at the end of the year,” said the councillor at the December meeting of the New Ross Municipal District. “If we could access that grant it would be very beneficial given the amount of houses we and Kilkenny County Council have planned for the area.”
