Signage has been erected in Bunclody which will allow Wexford County Council (WCC) to enforce new parking by-laws which state there is free four-hour max stay parking on The Mall and in the Market Square areas.

The signage for the four-hour free parking will be installed in the coming weeks. The application forms for Resident Parking Permits who live in the area will be available shortly and enforcement of the by-laws will commence on June 15.

Discussing the new by-laws at the monthly meeting of the Enniscorthy Municipal District, Councillor Barbara-Anne Murphy said the council had already been assessing how the loss of parking spaces would impact businesses.

“A survey was carried out on the parking in Bunclody by the town team,” she said. “By 1 p.m. there were three spaces left in the entire town. There were two separate surveys carried out, one during the school holidays and one when the schools were still going - and during the school term it’s almost impossible to find a parking space in the town.”

“It’s going to be very difficult for workers who are going to have to move, but we need to keep the businesses going and the more people we can get into the town the better they’ll do - the town is dying right now.”

Confirming that a review of all parking permits was underway, district manager Claire Lawless said the council was also looking into issues with residents permits in the centre of town.
